Dude, I turned 35 years old.  Damn!  I’ve read about stories about children having a hard time dealing with their aging parents and all the issues involved with that and Buddy told me he is very sad that I am basically rotting away in front of his eyes.  Not sure how to address all his concerns other than saying, hey, I am working out a lot and maintaining a relatively clean lifestyle.  I should be around for another forty years.

So to celebrate my birthday, the family left town and spent some time down on Coronado Island.  I’ve never been to Coronado before but I totally dig it.  I’m cool with the entire San Diego area in general but the area reminds me of a mall food court.  There is a whole lot of option but nothing too exceptional or super compelling.

The one thing that is kind of compelling is the Mexican food.  I had heard of this place in City Heights (a very ghetto area of San Diego, think of it as Hot Dog on a Stick) that serves some crazy good and very authentic Mexican Food from the Guadalajara region.  It’s called Super Cocina.  It’s a simple place that serves a small menu cafeteria style.

They don’t speak English so you need to do a lot of pointing and use broken Spanish to get your message through.  But they are very nice and helpful.  They also will let you taste test everything.

We both got a two-item combo that includes some sides.  This cost $7.65 each.

This was a chicken dish stewed in a tomato broth.  Off the hook man.

This was a chicken mole dish.  I love mole and to be honest I can’t tell good mole from bad mole.  It’s all good mole to me.

Carnitas.  Real good man.

Spicy pork.  This place does incredible pork.  This is dish is actually what they are famous for.  I think it’s called Puerco de chile Colorado but remember, my Spanish is whacked.

Afterwards we were chilling on Coronado Beach.  This is the first time Buddy’s been to the beach.  We were throwing the football around and he threw me a bomb.  I guess I caught it and scored a touchdown.
